David N. Adair, Jr.
David Adair became “of counsel” to the firm of Blodgett Watts & Volk, PC in 2006 after a long career as associate general counsel at the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, where he counseled probation officers, judges, and judiciary staff on criminal law matters. David’s practice at the firm primarily involves research and writing motions and briefs in criminal cases. Prior to his service with the Administrative Office he was a trial and appellate litigator with the United States Department of Labor, was an associate attorney at Stinson, Mag, and Fizzell in Kansas City, Missouri, and was a law clerk to the Honorable John W. Oliver, United States District Judge for the Western District of Missouri.
David is admitted to practice in the courts of Vermont and the District of Columbia. He is also admitted before the United States District Courts for the District of Vermont and the Western District of Missouri, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University (B.A. 1967) and his law degree from the University of Michigan (J.D. 1972) (cum laude), where he was article and book review editor for the Michigan Law Review. He has published a number of articles in Federal Probation and the Federal Sentencing Reporter, and has recently revised and updated The Bail Reform Act of 1984, Third Edition (Federal Judicial Center 2006).
